AKAI AX-80

(Used as composition tool for The Frozen Autumn album "Emotional Screening

Device"; used for strings sounds on The Frozen Autumn song "When You Are Sad";

appears in the still unreleased TFA videoclip "Is Everything Real?" filmed in February 2004)

Description:

Pure analogue vintage synthesizer, 8-voice polyphonic, 3 oscillators per

voice with variable pulse width, excellent resonant 24 dB lowpass filter

and highpass filter, many modulation possibilities, oscillator sync and

oscillator cross modulation. Unison mode and chord memory, 5 green phosphor

displays on the front panel. 5-octave dynamic keyboard, midi interface. Its

sound could be compared to those of Jupiter 6, Jupiter 8, Chroma Polaris.

 

KORG DW-6000

(Used on stage during Static Movement live gigs in Vicenza -January 1999-

and in Leipzig WGT- June 2000)

Description:

Vintage synthesizer having a 24 dB lowpass analogue resonant filter and

wavetable digital waveforms. 6-voice polyphonic, envelope breakpoint

possibility, powerful unison mode, portamento, in-built stereo chorus, midi

interface, assignable joystick. 5-octave keyboard.

 

WALDORF MICROWAVE + CARD

(used as a composition tool for The Frozen Autumn)

Description:

Digital wavetable synthesizer having a resonant 24 dB analogue filter.

2 rack units, 8-voice polyphonic, 8-part multitimbral, layer and split

possibility, 4 separate outputs, many waveform modulation possibilities,

advanced envelopes, sound modulation sources assignable to a plethora of

destinations. Wave cascade functions, 32 wavetables, oscillator sync and

oscillator cross modulation, unison mode, portamento and glide.

Typical PPG Wave 2.3 sound. Of course midi, English user's manual.

RAM memory card that truly doubles the machine's memory.

 

YAMAHA CX5M

(used as an experimental tool)

Description:

Vintage computer music system, based on MSX technology. FM internal

synsthesis, 4 operators, 8- voice polyphonic, 8-part multitimbral.

Sound editing and storage are carried out by means of an external monitor

(which is not included, but a normal TV set will just work as well). Beside

the sound editing program, there's also a notation, composition and

sequencing program. Midi interface.

YAMAHA FS1r

(used on stage during The Frozen Autumn September 2002 live gigs in Athens,

Amsterdam and Reggio Emilia)

Description:

Advanced FM and formant synthesis digital synthesizer. One rack unit,

multimode analogue filter (lowpass, highpass, bandpass etc.), 16 operators

per each voice, 4-part multitimbral, 4 separate outputs, up to 32-voice

polyphonic, 88 algorithms, complex loopable envelopes, in-built hi-quality

multieffect unit with separate sends for each sound, reverb, delay, chorus,

flanger, phaser, etc.

Wide back-lit display, real-time control on the front panel, assignable knobs. Obviously midi, user's manuals.

 

ROLAND MSQ-700

(used to synchronize PPG Wave 2.2 sequences on The Frozen Autumn album

"Fragments Of Memories")

Description:

Vintage digital sequencer (it was that coupled with Jupiter 8), 8 polyphonic

tracks with quantization selection. Peculiar rear panel functions that

provide with 3 different communication standards: midi, sync, dcb. Thus, it

allows you to synchronize and sequence midi gear with non midi equipment

working with sync interface (e.g. PPG Wave, TR-808, TR-606 etc.) o with dcb

interface (e.g. Juno 60, Jupiter 8 first review). User's manual.

 

BEHRINGER EURORACK MX2804

(used in many The Frozen Autumn recording sessions and on stage during TFA

live gig in Livorno, May 2002)

Description:

20-channel-analogue mixer (up to 28 channels configuration). The first 8

channels have also microphonic xlr inputs (cannon) and phantom 48 volt

power supply, the others are stereo channels. For each channel: low, mid,

high equalization, 4 fx sends with pre/post, pan-pot, pfl and mute

functions, direct out/insert output on the rear panel, 4 stereo returns.

Small in size, mountable as a rack.

 

LEXICON LXP1

(used on synths)

Description:

Reverb-dedicated multieffect unit, but it can also reproduce chorus,

delay, flanger. Half-rack unit, user's manual.
